Statement of Our Faith

Statement of faith, sometimes referred to as Tenets of Faith is what we as MCC members believe to be the true doctrine and the basis of our believes.

Teaching at MCC is based on the great fundamentals of the Christian faith, all of which center on the person of Jesus Christ, our crucified, risen, and glorified Savior and Lord.

The following, together with other Christian principles of doctrine and practice, including the affirmation of the full trustworthiness of Scripture, which in its original writing was verbally inspired and without error, shall be the basis of the faith and doctrine of the Metropolitan Christian Church and all its branches.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God, the written record of His supernatural revelation of Himself to man, absolute in its authority, complete in its revelation, final in its content, and without any errors in its teachings.

TENETS (STATEMENT) OF OUR FAITH

  1. The Scriptures: We believe that all Scripture (both the Old and New Testament in the Holy Bible) is inspired by God and is our final doctrine for reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness (Proverbs 30:5-6; John 10:35; II Timothy 3:16-17).
  2. God: We believe in only one true God: one essence, nature and attributes eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26, 3:22, 11:7, Isaiah 6:8, Mathew: 16-17, 28:19, John1:1-2, Isaiah 48:16, I John 5:7). God exists in the persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, yet he is One God. i.e. (i) God is three persons, (ii) Each person is fully God; (iii) There is one God. (Isaiah 45:5-6, 21-22, Romans 3:30, I Timothy 2:5)
  3. Jesus Christ: We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in his virgin birth, of his blood shed at Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins, of his bodily resurrection and ascension to the Father’s right hand. We do not believe that He is away to the Father, but rather the only way through which we can receive righteousness, regeneration, sanctification and glorification. We believe Jesus is the Son of God and our Salvation. (John 10:30-36, John 14:6, 17:17, I Cor1:30-31)
  4. The Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is God and the third person of the Godhead. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit whose indwelling enables a Christian to live a godly life. He came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and to regenerate, sanctify, comfort, and seal those who believe in Jesus Christ, and to empower them to use spiritual gifts for the work of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:16-18; Acts 2:38, 5:3-4; I Corinthians 2:10-11, 12:4-6, ).
  5. Salvation: We believe that all who, in repentance and faith receive the Lord Jesus as Lord and Saviour are born again. (John 3:1-17; Rom 10:9-13, Acts 20:21). All men in their natural state are lost, alienated from God, spiritually dead: “All have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Salvation is only by grace, a free gift of God, through faith in the Lord Jesus, who died for our sins according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:3). Those who thus receive Christ by faith have their sins forgiven (Eph. 1:7), their hearts cleansed (Acts 15:9), are born of the Spirit, become children of God (Jn. 1:12, 13), and are made new creatures in Christ (II Cor. 5:17).
  6. Baptism by the Holy Spirit: We believe in the Baptism by the Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in tongues. The Baptism (infilling) of the Holy Spirit is a separate experience, which may occur at the time of salvation or at any time after a person has confessed sin and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Scriptural evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the manifestation of Spiritual gifts in the life of the believer under the power and operation of the Holy Spirit. (Joel 2:28-29; Luke 4:18-19; 24:49; Acts 1:5-8; 2:4; 2:38; 9:17; 10:44-46; 11:15-16; 19:6; 1Cor 12-14)
  7. Gifts of the Holy Spirit: We believe that spiritual gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit are for the common good and building up of the body of Christ. The purpose of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, as they function in love, is to manifest the wisdom and power of God, to build up the believers until they reach the full stature of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Gifts are to equip the saints to carry out the great commission of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 1:5-8; 2:4; 2:38; 9:17; I Cor. 12:7; Ephesians 4:8, 11-13).
  8. Water Baptism: We believe that water baptism by immersion is the New Testament covenant sign between God and His people. It is a physical sign of obedience after a person has repented of sin and put their faith and life in Jesus Christ. It also represents a separation between the past and the future as we identify with Christ’s death, burial and resurrection to a new life. We believe it is necessary to be baptized into much water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in obedience to the command of Christ. (Mathew 3:13-17; Acts 2:37-38; Mark 16:16; Mathew 28:19).
  9. Child Dedication: We believe in dedicating children (infants) to God. We do not baptize babies but rather present them before God for blessings in a service of dedication consistent with the Scripture. (Mathew 19:13-15; I Samuel 1:11, 24-26; Luke 2:22). Young children /babies do not understand faith and cannot make a decision for salvation. The dedication rite is intended to be a public statement by the parents that they will train their children in the Christian faith and seek to instill that faith in them. There is no implied salvation in this ceremony. We believe that most children can be ready for water baptism after they recognize that they are sinners and are borne again and that could be from the ages of seven years. Parents or pastors are able to determine whether a particular child is able to understand the significance of water baptism by discussing it with them.
  10. The Holy Communion: We believe the Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is for believers in Christ and should be regularly celebrated in remembrance of Him (1Cor. 11:28 -32; Luke 22:19 -20). The Metropolitan Christian Church recognizes two sacraments namely: Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper as of divine appointment and of perpetual obligation of which it is the privilege and duty of the members to avail themselves.
  11. Miracles: We believe that God can and still performs miracles today. We believe that the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross can manifest miracles including physical healing and divine health for all. (Mathew 8:16-17; Isaiah 53:4; I Peter 2:24). However, the greatest miracle of all is that of salvation; that while we were still sinners, Christ came and died for us! (Romans 5:8; John 3:16)
  12. The Second Coming: We believe in literal, physical second return to earth of the Lord Jesus Christ. (I Thessalonians 1:10, 4:16-17). Jesus Christ will come again to earth the second time (Heb. 9:28), personally (Acts 1:11; I Thess. 4:16), bodily (Acts 1:11; Col. 2:9), and visibly (Mathew 26:64; Rev.1:7). His coming will precede the age of universal peace and righteousness foretold in the Scriptures (Mathew 24:29, 30, 42; II Thess. 2:7, 8; Rev. 20:1-6).
  13. The Resurrection: We believe in the resurrection of the just and the unjust; the just to everlasting life and the unjust to everlasting damnation. (Mathew 25:46). Our Lord Jesus rose from the dead in the same body that was laid to rest in the tomb (Jn. 20:25-27). The bodies of all believers who die will be raised from the dead, and they will receive an incorruptible body like unto His glorious body (I Cor. 15:53; Phil. 3:21). All other men shall be raised unto “the resurrection of judgment” (Jn. 5:28, 29).
  14. Righteousness and Holiness: We believe in Righteousness and Holiness through Jesus Christ and his redemptive works on the cross. (Ephesians 4:24; Hebrews 12:14).
  15. The Church: We believe that the universal Church (Body of Christ) is comprised of all true believers who have received salvation by faith through Jesus the Christ. We also believe in and encourage fellowship with a local church. (Hebrews 10: 25; Ephesians 1:22-23).
  16. Marriage: We believe in the sanctity of marriage as an institution ordained by God. Marriage is to be entered in reverently, soberly and in the fear of God and is between an adult male and female of consensual age. Marriage is given by God as an expression of covenant love and sacrifice between a man and woman. (Gen 2:24; Ephesians 5:28-33; Hebrews 13:4; Mathew 19:5; II Cor. 6:14).
  17. Tithes, offerings and donations: We believe the Church should be supported by the tithes, offerings and donations from all those who are committed to its mission. (Gen. 14:17-20; Mal. 3:6-12; 2Cor. 8:1-7; 9:1-13; Proverbs 11:24; Luke 6:38).
  18. Judgment: We believe in a final judgment at the end of the age. The righteous and the wicked shall stand before Him and be judged. Those who have righteousness produced by faith will be rewarded with His eternal blessings. Those who are wicked will be eternally punished (Matt. 25:31-46; 2Thess. 1:5-10; Rev. 20:11-15).
  19. Evangelism: We believe in world evangelism and accept the commission of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations, to baptize them, and teach them to observe His commandments. We join with all those believing in Him to accomplish this urgent task, and accept this as a personal commission as well as a command to the entire Church (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-20; Acts 1:8).
  20. Priesthood of the believer: We believe in the priesthood of the believer. By the shedding of His blood, Jesus has become the believer’s High Priest and has made it possible for each Christian to have free access to the presence of the Father. In His presence, each one can come to know God and receive from Him (1 Pet. 2:9-10; Heb. 4:14 -16; 10:19 -22).
  21. Church Government: We believe that Christ is the head of the church and its supreme authority (Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; Colossians 1:18). We believe that the local Church is to be governed by a spiritual leadership headed by the Elder (Oversee/Bishop/Pastor).
  22. Civil Government: We believe that the civil government is of divine appointment, for the interest and good order of human society; and that government officials are to be prayed for, honoured, and obeyed in the Lord. We believe in obeying the governmental authorities, and the government is to treat believers justly and fairly. Even when the government does not live up to its role, the Christians are still to live up to the Biblical principles. When the government asks Christians to do something that is in direct disobedience to God’s Word, we choose to obey God in faithful confidence of the Lord’s power to protect us. Civil authority is separated from church government, but should not be separated from God and His law. (Dan.2:21-22; Acts 4:18-20; 5:29; Romans 13:1-7; 1Peter 2:13-14; Mathew 22:20-21; I Timothy 2:2).

Our History

The 1st MCC service was held on 28th June 2009 with a handful of believers. After about one month, the number of believers in the ministry had grown to 15 adults and it was becoming a challenge accommodating this number in a single classroom type room.

It was at this time that believers turned to God asking in prayer that the Lord would grant another place of worship. The Lord answered immediately by providing about a quarter an acre plot within the informal settlement area of Kamitha, an informal settlement area in Kawangware – in Nairobi.

Our first open air meeting (gospel crusade) was held at Stage Oria in Kawangware from 6th – 9th August 2009 in which the servant of God the late Reverend Harrison Oulo -RIP (a man who had been crippled for many years but whom God healed from a wheel chair) was the main speaker. God performed many signs and wonders following His Word and a good number of people got saved.

On Sunday 9th of August 2009, the 1st Sunday service was held in the new premises which God had graciously provided as a ministry base. Since then we have experienced God’s hand and there has been tremendous impact in the lives of many that are turning to Him through this ministry.

God has given an increase in the number of believers. We are now about 80 registered members. God has also given this Church a very dedicated leadership and a committed congregation that is ready to serve Him even in very challenging times. This has been made possible through partnerships and networking with friends, Churches and other organisations.

Growth

MCC was founded in June 2009 with a mission of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all humanity. We believe the LORD has called us to share in the responsibility of Transforming lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This being the vision of the Church.

God put these words in the heart of His servant Pastor Habil Mutende and called him and his wife; Rhodah to start this work. These dear servants had faithfully served God in various capacities for about twelve years before the Pastor was specifically called to this work. This call of God is to reach the underprivileged in society and demonstrate the power of transformation in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The ministry started as a fellowship in a rented room at Kawangware 56 near the Bus terminus in the city of Nairobi – Kenya. One remarkable thing happened where during its very first fellowship meeting on Wednesday 24th June 2009, one young lady was born again. It was a testimony that God had a clear purpose for His people in this region.

Future Plans

God has given an increase in the number of believers. We are now about 80 registered members. God has also given this Church a very dedicated leadership and a committed congregation that is ready to serve Him even in very challenging times.
